Greetings!
Ringing
telephones, busy bodies, more faces, and most importantly more
smiles on those faces are characteristics we've observed
for two months in a row now. It is a recent
record! As one of our vendor representatives said
recently "we are celebrating smaller victories" these days.
We are grateful to have you, our customer, to help us achieve
these victories and wish to partner with you for mutual success.
Some of you have
received follow-up calls following deliveries of materials over the past
three months. The purpose of these calls is to monitor and
improve accuracy in order/delivery so that your jobs flow as scheduled
without interruption.
Areas monitored are:
1. Timely and undamaged
deliveries
2. Order accuracy
3. Proper shipping
documentation/content clarity
4. Proper invoicing
Our goal in this
exercise is to make your business more successful. Your
feedback is important to us. Please contact me anytime you feel a
need on any issue. Thank you for your business!
Sincerely,
Mark F. Smith G.W.

Market Update:
SYP Lumber
Mills
are looking for offers to keep wood moving into the market. Buyers are
very hesitant to make offers. Mill curtailment rumors are already being
thrown around but in the mean time there quite a large amount of excess
lumber to move. This slowdown in activity is resulting in slowly
falling prices.
SPF Lumber
Trading was has been
light. Price levels varied by as much as $25-$30 per thousand
boardfeet on any given quote. Buyers retreated to the sidelines as
the market remained unsettled. Prices will begin downward slowly.
OSB Panels All quiet on the OSB
front. Producers are still leaning on 2-3 week order files while the
secondary's are confronted with double-digit discounts to move prompt
material. Many customers are still waiting on month-old late shipments
from traditional problem shipping areas. Mid-week pricing was down in
the $10-15/m range.
SYP
Plywood
The Southern Pine Plywood
market has made the turn. Order files have all but disappeared. Prices
should turn downward. Under pressure from the mills, secondaries
and distribution are aggressively discounting prompt material in order
to secure destinations. Trucking delays are still playing a major roll
in determining lead times. Please take this into consideration when
planning your needs.
Roofing
Most of the major roofing
products producers have announced additional price increases in June of from 5% to 7%.
Gypsum
Gypsum is rumored to be
increasing as much as 25%, but no concrete information has come
through yet. Bid jobs with caution.
Fasteners & Metals
Metal prices continue
to rise due mainly to the renegotiation of ore prices. Fasteners are predicted
to rise another 8% in each of the next quarters.
